What to learn about food waste
- About 30% of food in American grocery stores is thrown away.
- U.S. retail stores generate about 16 billion pounds of food waste every year.
Town Talk Foods is proud to do its part to help eliminate food waste by offering goods at discounted rates.
- American households waste approximately $1,600 per year when throwing away produce. Our Saturday market offers ready-to-eat produce at a fraction of the cost compared to major chain grocery stores.
- Food waste in the U.S. is estimated to be 30% to 40% of the food supply.
- It’s safe to eat many foods past the ‘best by date’.
Frozen food is safe to eat indefinitely. Many dry goods are safe to eat past their best by date.
Where do products come from?
Town Talk partners with numerous suppliers from several levels of the food industry and purchases from manufacturers, distribution centers, warehouse intermediaries, transportation companies, brokerage firms and independent distributors.
What are repackaged items?
Town Talk Foods’ is a certified repackager which means it can purchase, repackage and re-label products according to government regulations. Most of the food comes from well-established restaurants, brands, major food distributors and the oversupply from food distributors. Buying “repackaged” verses “packaged food” provides customers exponential savings that can’t be found anywhere else. The term “repackaged food” means while inventory changes daily, a product is purchased in bulk and then repackaged into smaller retail packages.
